One of the routes into Bury St Edmunds will soon have a new speed limit after councillors and community leaders worked together.
Next month, the speed limit along the A143 between Horringer and Bury will become 40mph – a reduction of 20mph on the current national speed limit in force.
Suffolk county councillor Karen Soons part-funded the measure with her highways locality budget. She said: “I am pleased our work to achieve a safer 40mph speed limit is set to be installed. This stretch of road will be much safer for walkers, cyclists and motorists.
“Thanks to the parish council and residents for their help in achieving this much-needed highway improvement measure with me.”
Campaigning for the new speed limit started when permission was granted for a new residential entrance along the stretch and the whole area was scrutinised as part of the process.
A Suffolk Highways spokeswoman said road signing would take place from January 27 and lining – depending on weather – by February 5.
